Student Research Assistant - 28% at IOB

This position is funded through the University of Basel's Stay on Track program, which aims to support female postdoctoral researchers returning to work after maternity leave.

Starting on: 01/09/2026 or as mutually agreed (12 hours/week)
Contract duration: Fixed term, 6 months
Work schedule: ideally two to three times per week.

Your position

About the project
The Ophthalmic Genetics Group is looking for a (student) research assistant to support a project investigating how splicing defects contribute to inherited retinal diseases (IRDs).


Your tasks
  • Maintain cell lines in culture.
  • Extract RNA.
  • Perform Western Blot Experiments
  • Carry out immunohistochemistry staining on cell lines using established protocols.
  • Maintain careful documentation and coordinate closely with the project supervisor.

Your profile

  • Research associate, master's student or university graduate in Biology, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience with cell culture is highly desirable.
  • Careful, structured, and reliable working style.
  • Experience with pipetting and standard laboratory techniques.
  • Good command of English (working language of the institute/laboratory).

Not essential but is a plus:
  • Knowledge of biochemistry.
  • Experience with transfection and/or transduction of cell lines.
