The Nash Lab (University of Basel, Chemistry & ETH Zurich D-BSSE) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Research Associate specializing in pre-clinical animal experimentation.

Your position

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research with a focus on development of novel drug delivery technologies in the area of ischemic stroke. The project is funded by Innosuisse and is planned to be spun off from the University of Basel within 18 months, providing a unique opportunity to be involved in translational research and technology commercialization.

You will be responsible for supporting a research project that involves pre-clinical animal experimentation, rodent imaging and biochemical assays.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing and managing animal experiments, particularly rodent stroke models. 
  • Ensuring ethical and humane handling of laboratory animals according to Swiss regulations.
  • Conducting biochemical assays and standardizing experimental protocols.
  • Analyzing experimental data and preparing reports for research publications.
  • Collaborating with team members and external partners to advance project objectives.
  • Documenting results in accordance with good laboratory practices.

Your profile

  • A PhD (preferred) or masters degree in verterinary sciences, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • An LTK1 certification or equivalent from abroad recognized in Switzerland, permitting you to conduct animal experiments.
  • Experience in animal experimentation, preferably in neurological, cardiovascular, or blood-related studies.
  • Basic biochemistry skills, including performing and standardizing biochemical assays.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and curiosity-driven, with a passion for biomedical research.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
