The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel (USB) are seeking a Professor of Neurology and Chair of the Department of Neurology.
The Neurological Clinic and Polyclinic at USB delivers highly specialized neurological care to the entire north-western region of Switzerland. The clinic is internationally renowned for its excellence in research.
Your position
As Head and Chair of the Clinic for Neurology, you will be responsible for the continued development of the Neurological Clinic and Polyclinic at USB, ensuring the provision of high-quality inpatient and outpatient neurological care at USB and throughout the region. You will also play a key role in delivering exceptional academic teaching and research.
Leveraging your clinical experience and research expertise, you will enhance the national and international reputation of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital and the University of Basel.
Your clinical proficiency and dedication to teaching will support the advancement of cutting-edge training and education for interns and senior neurology physicians, in line with the standards of the Swiss Institute for Medical Training and Education (SIWF).
Through your commitment to academic research and teaching, you will inspire students and nurture the next generation of neurologists. Your participative and goal-oriented leadership approach will foster an attractive and supportive working environment for both academic and clinical specialists.
You lead a neurological research group, creating a productive environment for your own research team while also promoting and supporting research teams with other areas of focus within your clinic.
Your profile
You hold an FMH title in Neurology or an equivalent qualification, with extensive clinical experience across various fields of neurology and a subspecialisation in acute neurology. The possession of at least one certificate in clinical electrophysiology is desirable. You have a successful track record in conducting independent research, including securing competitive third-party funding.
Collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine's research priorities and engagement with research groups within the Departments of Clinical Research, Biomedical Engineering, and Biomedicine, as well as with industrial partners, is expected.
You have demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting. Your exceptional expertise, leadership skills, and outstanding communication abilities enable you to foster trust and acceptance. You are adept at creating an appealing work environment, inspiring creative and actionable ideas, and motivating your team members effectively.
Proficiency in German or a willingness to acquire it within a reasonable timeframe is required.
