The Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE) has a Flagship funded project from the Werner Siemens Foundation (Zug/Switzerland). The principal aim of this interdisciplinary project called Minimally Invasive Robot Assisted Computer-guided LaserosteotomE (MIRACLE) is the development of a minimally invasive robotic endoscope for cutting bone with laser light. The successful Postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary team of biomedical engineers, mechatronics engineers, computer scientists, physicists, and medical doctors. He or She will be able to contribute to the development of a disruptive technology in robotic laser surgery.
Your position
In this project, the Postdoc will be developing a miniaturized optical or/and optoacoustical feedback system for smart medical laser. To develop this fully miniaturized and integrated system we will investigate different optical or/and optoacoutical system design which produce the best prototype for minimally invasive smart laser surgery. Aim is to build miniaturized optical/optoacoustical feedback system (e.g., OCT, optoacoustics, LIBS) and integrate it with a miniaturized laser surgery. The integrated prototype should be able to monitor in real time the cutting depth and changes in bone and/or tissue properties (e.g., mechanical, thermal) during the minimally invasive laser cutting.
